Disaster Day Homeschooling?!

Some days are, in the words of Alexander, "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days." When you feel your homeschooling isn't working, when the kids are fighting, when you've lost your desire to be in the same room, the same house, the same city - take heart! We have all been there.

What do you do? Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Stop what you're doing and try reading to them instead or play a game

  • Evaluate your curriculum - is it making you miserable? Try putting it aside and using something different.

  • Change locations - go to a different room, go outside, head to your local donut shop

  • Take a break, a nap, or go out for coffee with a friend (you need to do this regularly)

  • Take pictures or look at pictures to remind yourself that there really were good days

  • Put on a good movie or program and start again tomorrow

You aren't a failure and your kids most likely will look back and remember the good things, that you gave up everything to homeschool them. And they'll thank you.

What do you do when those bad days come? Email me your responses and I'll post them along with my ideas. We are all on this journey together - through the good days and those "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days!"
